Nestled into a cove of basalt columns in the Aberdeen Cliffs, “Scaling the Cliffs” offers not only a view above the treeline, but an interactive and educational passage to get there. The tower celebrates the geometric basalt with hexagonal corten steel columns of its own that weather with the rock, and ‘topple’ over explorers who climb the steps or pass through to the lift. Its cantilevered stair system supports both intimate and open landings, offering a dynamic and exciting ascent for visitors. Located in the North Okanagan in British Columbia, the site is accessible via Buck Hills Road. Although the site is not widely known, the structure aims to draw more attention to the geological feature.
