Dunehaus v1 is an off-grid resort located in the southern Australian outback; more precisely, on the outskirts of Coober Pedy. Historically, Coober Pedy has been referred to as the “Opal capital of Australia.” However, the climate is extremely harsh, in a desert of sandstone and stone. The site itself is dense with extreme, barren, and dry air conditions, where temperatures can often exceed 45°C. In the warmer months, the average high can get up to 37°C, and a low of 21°C. To combat this issue, various passive cooling strategies are utilized, some of which include thermal massing, natural ventilation, and materials.
