Modern Residential Complex

Sailing Pavillion

For my second studio project at the University of Waterloo, we were tasked with designing the roof of a pavilion. My design references the steel and fabric structures found in Moshe Safdie's later works, such as the Salt Lake City Library. Using steel structures to capture a dynamic, flowing sail-like form, and using tensile sails to modulate the light and catch the wind. As seen in the sections, the primary sails were designed to block the hot summer sun during peak hours, but let in sunlight during the winter.
